How come I can extrapolate ratings? Is there a 95 point wine better than any 89 point wine?
1994 Margaux Di Robert Parker rates of a castle at 89 points (baseball stadium, just one) and a 2006 Cabernet Blabla to 95 points. Does this mean that in a direct comparison will Blabla better performance? Or ratings only apply to the same crop and region, for example, Pauillac 1999 is 89 points worse than a 1999 Pauillac 95 points, but can not be compared directly with a 89-point Margaux 2000? …
Honestly, they are based on taste and a relative scale on the basis of taste sensation in the mouth, and the opinion of the tasters. They are compared with others of that variety, but it is still relatively subjective. A 95 point scoring cabernet between taxis, and so on. If you like zinfandel, then you're not going to like it a point as much as 98 zin, for example, a point of the cabin 85 … if You Are particularly partial to the cockpit. Yet more confusing … what a rate 90 +, another (or even you) would like to be less than another low score in 80 … it all comes down to drink what you want. The scores are only a relative starting point. If you like the 89 better than 95, then no, 95 is not better … and vice versa. Confused yet?
