Vinyls (LP’s) Still Pop/Crackle Consitantly After Deep Cleanings?
I have been cleaning my Vinyls with the spinclean system (from garage-a-records.com). I also have been cleaning them off with a carbon fibre brush before and after each cleaning. I also have a brand new cartridge and stylus (a Grado Prestige Green Series) that is aligned. But I am having a problem with still having constant crackles (Even On A Brand New LP that was sealed / pressed in 2006). If I take a flash light, I can even still see dust on the vinyl even with all these cleaning actions…
I have been told that cleaning new vinyl is a good thing in that it gets rid of the left over stuff that is left on the vinyl after the manafacturing stage.
I am thinking maybe it is an electrical issue… my receiver does enot have a grounding hookup for the phono input (although it does have a phono input) so I have been grounding the ground wire from the turntable to the chasis of the receiver…
You really shouldn’t clean new records at all, other than lightly with a Carbon Fiber brush. Try and avoid cleaners that use any kinds of fluids. These usually leave residual debris in the grooves, which you will hear and which will wear on your stylus. These wet cleaning systems are very often mis-used or over-used and a build up occurs.
I use a carbon fiber brush before each playing and at most I might use the Disk Washer Brush, if the record is already in not so good a shape. I have thousands of albums and still enjoy them over CDs …but it’s really nice to have clean sounding vinyl.
Just how loud is this interference from the vinyl? Did it start when you changed cartridges?
If it is really loud, you may have a shorting electrical connection. You recently installed a new cartridge …look for shorts in the turntable set up. It also could be a defective stylus and /or cartridge.
