Debt Financier Chosen for Saracen’s Gold Project
Debt financier chosen for Saracen’s gold project
SARACEN Mineral Holdings says it has selected a preferred debt financier for the capital requirement of its South Laverton project in Western Australia.
Today the company said in a statement it estimates capital funding, including a 30% contingency, of up to $23 million would be required for production start-up of the mine.
Saracen is aiming for first gold production at South Laverton in late 2009 or early 2010.
Gold production will be in three phases with phase 1 producing from the Porphyry, Whirling Dervish, Wallbrook, Enterprise and Deep South open pits.
The starting gold production rate will be at 115,000oz per annum.
Phases 2 and 3 will be based on the performance of phase 1 to reduce risk.
“The preferred debt financier’s formal due diligence assessment, which involved the engagement of several external independent experts, has commenced and is on track to be completed by late January 2009,” the company said.
The minerals explorer could not be contacted to provide a name of the preferred debt financier at the time of publishing.
The board of directors has also announced a risk management sub-committee of the board has been formed, chaired by independent director Barrie Parker.
The company said the committee would provide project risk assessment and formulation of risk mitigation strategies, with Parker ensuring the objectives are implemented effectively.
“The risk management sub-committee is an enhancement of the company’s corporate governance procedures, in response to the greater complexity and risk arising from the company’s proposed transition from explorer to producer,” the company said.
Saracen shares dipped 7.46% to 6.2c yesterday and remain unchanged today.
