Using citrus Wood Pen Making

pen craftsmen always looking for different types of wood to use craft pens. Using wood hard and soft base readily available, the craftsman of the pen, unless they specialize in only a few types of wood, the desire to try to convert as much possible different woods. Another option for the pen craftsman / woodworker is the availability of various types of citrus wood for making the pen.

Recently quantities of grapefruit, mandarin orange and forests have become available. These forests have very tight grain lines are very easy to make fine exquisite feathers. These forests turn and sand too. They take any finish and provide a great looking pen.

The use of these forests in a spalted also other traits that set them apart from standard timber. Many deep and dark designs and textures can be discovered using these type of spalted citrus groves.

Orange wood has a nice tight grain and even has a slight aroma to it. This wood is becoming very well allowing the craftsman to sand piece for a glass-like finish. Plumas be "tannish" in color and grain is well seen in the finished piece.

Grapefruit wood becomes similar to the wood of orange, but is slightly darker in color. Using grapefruit spalted insect that has holes all looking to produce beautiful feathers character. The grain is a little more visible than orange, and added details are accentuated. As protruding upper and lower barrels produced exceptional looking grain patterns.

Mandarina wood is a little more difficult to obtain but well worth it. This also becomes easy and offers excellent looking feathers. The color of the pen is like feathers turned from orange wood, but with the lines of grain a bit wider. It looks more colorful than the other woods, but nonetheless retains the same properties as other citrus forests.

Wooden Pen and craftsmen continually seek new wood to fire, but if you have the opportunity to get one of these beauties, it's worth your effort to add to your collection.
