Duofold Style
Options For Insulated Window Treatments
If You Are looking for insulated window treatments, you have a few options. Not only do you get to choose how much insulation you need, but you can decide how pretty you want them as well.
Insulation Options for Blinds and Shades
- The liner – This will give you the least insulation but it does maximize light filtration.
- Single Cell Cellular Shades – The cellular shade is one of the most energy efficient shades available. The unique honeycomb shades trap in air to insulate the home.
- Double Cell Cellular Shades – The double cell works just like the single cell. The difference is that the double cell offers more insulation.
- Side Track System – The side track system is not a shade but it can be added to shades to provide more insulation. It effectively seals off the window and it has an energy rating 5 times higher than a single pane window. When added to certain blinds, it can qualify for a Federal Tax Credit.
Style Options
- Pleated – The pleated blind is probably the most well known style for window treatments. In fact, when people think of blinds, they either picture slats or pleated varieties.
- Roman Shade – Roman shades lie flat when lowered. As the blinds are raised, the shade forms tear drops while still maintaining the flat surface on the lowered portion. Additionally, some Roman Shades are designed to maintain the tear drops at all times.
Customizing Options
- Duofold/ Top Down Bottom Up – One of the more popular upgrades involves the duofold. Traditionally, blinds are raised from the bottom. In fabric blinds, this means the blinds have to be fully raised to let light in at the top. However, with duofold blinds, you can lower the top while the bottom stays down. This allows for additional privacy, especially in tall windows.
- Cordless Lift – The cordless lift is recommended for any home with small children. It is a wonderful safety feature that allows you to raise and lower the blinds without the use of a cord.
- Roll ease/ Continuous Cord – Since larger blinds can be heavy, the continuous loop makes the job of lifting the blinds easier.
As you can clearly see, you have plenty of options when installing insulated window treatments. Gone are the days when you had to hang heavy curtains that collected dust. Now you can insulate your home and still have attractive window treatments.
It all comes down to what kind of look you want for your home. Once you know that, it is just a matter of finding the shades that match your desires.
