Used to watch this movie as a kid – can’t remember the title?

I need help remembering the name. It was G or PG movie, about a family who is on a boat then gets stranded on an island. The family is white, and there is a young black kid that hides on board as a stowaway. the kid falls overboard and that’s how the family comes to know about him. he eventually becomes like a part of the family. they find a dog on the island who’s owner had died, but left a diary. that’s about all I remember about it. it came out in the 70s or 80s. it wasn’t a 4-star movie or anything, and it probably went straight to video. want to look it up and watch it again. Help!

i have been looking for it too! Think its “the last flight of noahs ark” maybe??? that could have been another one i used to love tho…i remember the bit where the boy falls overboard because he goes to lower a bucket so he can brush his teeth? and the bear chasing the dad (someone Ulrich) and the pelican!! lol

yeah, i know Robert Ulrich was the dad, i just looked up his filmography and i cant find the movie…you know, i think it was just something like “shipwrecked” …can you remember the names of any other actors in it? Now i want to find it too…
