How do you prevent identity theft?

What are the things you do in everyday life to prevent identity theft? I have my name all my letters without my middle initial, not sign back. It says on the photo identification. My law firm ALWAYS has my middle initial on it. So if ever there is a difference, I win! I always carry my mail checks to the post office.
